Heerlijke high tea
Voor ons eerste keer in het schimmelpenninck huys en wij waren blij verrast! Fijne sfeer en een heerlijke en verrassende high tea. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar en een aanrader voor iedereen

Disappointing Easter Brunch
Thank you for requesting my feedback. A group of 11 of us just had Easter Brunch at the SPH last week. We were looking forward to it as we had all heard that it was a beautiful, historic hotel with a nice restaurant but unfortunately were disappointed with the experience. We joked that they need to call Gordon Ramsey to come and whip it into shape, as it has so much potential. Upon entering we were welcomed by the friendly receptionist and a staff member pointed to a large, bare table near the service kitchen. One tiny narcissus and an Easter branch on the piano were the only Easter decorations in the room. I thought that was too bad because it's so easy to create a nice table which looks inviting to guests. And it's Easter! All of the tables, in fact, were bare, so that it didn't even look like they were expecting anyone. No linens, silverware, glassware, nothing. It was meant to be self-service which gives more of a cafeteria feel than nice hotel experience (especially for the price!). It was just a hotel breakfast experience, nothing special. The food lacked an inviting presentation and had some hits (eggs benedict, dessert mousses, scones and breads were great) and some misses (salad with blue cheese, underdone salmon, dry quiche squares, steamed veggies). We were surprised at the lack of meat selection. One of our party is lactose intolerant and it's my fault for not checking first but I was surprised that all she could eat was bread, a boiled egg and steamed vegetables. Perhaps something to think about in the future - to have more variety for special dietary needs (it seems to be quite common now). The servers were very friendly but none seemed experienced in serving. I had to go look for them to request they clear the table of old plates, take drink orders, and even missed a welcome at our table with brief info on where we could find coffee/tea, silverware, etc. Carafes of tap water is a MUST in my book, especially in a country with the highest rated quality of water. I realize I sound like a complainer. My intent with giving a detailed review is that the restaurant gets specific points to work on, as I would really like to see it succeed and I would like to return. And I'm always frustrated when I spend a lot of money on a disappointing restaurant experience, as I feel there is no excuse for it in this day and age. And, let's face it, a hotel/restaurant that's been around as long as this place should have had plenty of time to get it right.

Lekker maar service kan beter
Een lekkere high tea gehad op zaterdag. Om half 2 gereserveerd en we kregen eerst jus d'orange uit een pak. We kregen daarna vrij snel de mosterdsoep die erg lekker was. Vervolgens hebben we bijna een uur gewacht en hadden we nog geen hapjes. Toen we hiernaar vroegen kregen we binnen 5 minuten de etagère met lekkers. Waarschijnlijk waren we vergeten, want de mensen vlakbij ons die een halfuur later binnen kwamen kregen hem toen ook. Wel was alles erg lekker! Lekkere sandwiches en lekkere zoete hapjes! Het eten was dus prima, de service liet wat te wensen over.
